Tropical Forest Community Mapping Initiative - Summary Report

Summary of a study looking into the feasibility of establishing a pan-tropical community mapping platform, based on a consultation of more than 70 indigenous organisations and NGOs in Asia, Mesoamerica and the Amazon. The study recommends specific legal and technical measures for establishing a decentralised network of online community mapping platforms that should be anchored in representative indigenous and community structures which, in line with their own needs and priorities, allowing full control of mapping data themes, collection, management and access whilst permitting aggregation of geospatial information at regional scales or with other databases.
