Almost all forest land in the Congo Basin region is officially owned by the state, but much is designated or ‘leased’ as concessions, in the form of logging areas or national parks. The data below shows that the main users of the forest rarely have permanent ownership rights. (Total may add to more than 100% where areas of forest may fall into more than one category).
